Scream readers, on your behalf we had the pleasure in interviewing the drummer in ‘The Rhythm Travellers’. Shaun Parker, 21, has been drumming in the band ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ for boarding on a year. We get the inside gossip on how he does what he does best how he started and the plans for the future.
Trying to get hold of him was the hardest part of the interview but we got there in the end.  He was busy because he was doing a lot of gigs around and about. Having to interview over the phone had its setbacks but what can you do? Shaun started playing the drums after his mum and dad realised everywhere they went he was tapping his feet, using pens and pencils against the kitchen table (didn’t go down too well with his mother). So after that they decided to buy him a drum kit one Christmas which started something amazing.
He had the drum kit in his room and would play them as soon as he woke up before school and as soon as he came home. But as you can imagine the neighbours would go mad! “Will you please turn that racket down?!!!” They would angrily be banging on the door trying telling him to stop. So after a long hard think they converted the shed in to a place where the drum kit lived so as you can imagine he lived out there (not literally!!) Until yet again the neighbours complained about the noise so he had to stop playing the drums by 9:00pm.  Shaun never had a teacher he just took it on his own accord on how to learn which makes his music a little more amazing as he taught himself.
“I’m not a one trick pony” he goes on to say as he can also play the guitar which as well he taught himself as well. So why the drums? “The drums let me get my mood out and I get to show my creative side and I let out any emotions I’m feeling” So if any of you readers are short tempered maybe investing in a set of drums is what you should next invest in!!
So as well as playing the drums guitar and being in a band. What else does Shaun do? He works Monday to Friday in the NHS, he enjoys going out with friends, going to festivals such as Leeds festival, going to gigs, performing in his band in pubs and family events.
As well as being in ‘The Rhythm Travellers’  he recently left the band ‘Last Asylum’ due to different opinions and on-going disagreements such as not practicing as much as they needed as band members were out a lot but as previously stated playing the drums is “his passion” . This now means he can concentrate solely on ‘The Rhythm Travellers’. They practise every week in a rented out music room in Liverpool which he says “they practise for upcoming gigs and have started to make their own music, which will later be coming out in the New Year.” At the moment “The Rhythm Travellers” are doing covers of other rock songs and just doing what they like to do. Scream asked where did the name the ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ come from? And he answered “Well we travel back and forth from the new and old rock music and it was a suggestion the leads singer mum made, so we thought why not” Shaun’s favourite rock bands are Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis and Aerosmith. “I love listening to these bands they help us make our music and help me chill out!!!” Whilst we were interviewing Shaun all we could hear was the tap of his foot in the background which shows he is constantly thinking about music. ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ are the ones to watch and there music will be appearing all over so watch out!!!!
