Double page spread process

I also used Quark to design my double page spread...

This is the tool bar that I used to make my double page spread.
This helped me move things when I needed to move them,
This helped me highlight and change text

This helped my add the text.
This helped me add the pictures

This is how my double page spread started.

At first using Quark was very difficult because I had only used it twice before but then it was okay. I used the picture tool to add the picture, then I used the text tool to add the text I added the picture and copied and pasted the text from the word document I created it on. I changed the colour of the text BANG OF THE DRUM! and added the quote box.

I then added more text on to it because it needed to be in line with the picture on it. I had to use a tool to make the S stand first as you couldnt do it without using the special tool.

To finish my double page spread I then changed the title to "Im not a one trick pony" as it sounds more mysterious and would make the reader want to read on. I then blended the picture so it looks more professional and then I added the title and the page number.

I then changed the drop capital to 4 lines down by using the drop capital tool to make my drop capital bigger so it stands out more.

I added quote marks on to the title using the text tool to make the audience realise it was a quote.

Contents page process

To make my contents page I used Quark.
I added my two pictures and the titles for each part of the contents page and started to number the pages. I then added the blue box by using the graphic tool, then i added the text using the text tool.

I made the 'scribbles' on the back ground for the numbers on my contents page on photo shop by using the paint brush tool and literally making a scribble. I then went on to add the text for my contents page and the numbers by using the text tool. I also added a black box in the corner and put black lines around the pictures using the Quark graphic tool.

I then took the black lines of using the undo tool. I then changed the title of SCREAM to match my front cover, and added numbers to the pictures in white and big to make them stand out. And took the black lines off because it didnt look good. Then I added more text to the every month so the columns stayed in place.

I changed the second picture because it was very similar to my double page spread picture.

I then changed the title 'Scream' abit smaller because I wanted to make the 'inside this week' bigger so it stands out. I then added a lot more coverlines using the text tool because it was too bland otherwise and had a lot of space to fill.
Then I changed the Scream title to the same one on my contents page. I done this by print screening the title then turning into in a JPEG on photo shop then I inserted into my quark project on my contents page using the picture tool.
I moved all the text to the righthand side to make room for an extra picture using the moving tool on Quark. I also used the text tool to change week to month because my magazine it monthly. I used the picture tool to add a new picture onto my contents page.
Quark was the best software to use to make my contents page.

Front cover process

This the tool bar used on photoshop.
I used the lasso tool to cut out the image on this photo as the mise en scene wasnt a good but one but the picture was a good one. So I cut it out.
I put a background of grey and black gradient on the picture, I also added the title SCREAM using the red outline and the black fill. Aswell i added the text 'TOP 50 ROCK SONGS EVER' and 'FREE DOWNLOADS'
I used the shape tool to put the banner across the top with 'ROCK BANDS SET TO SMASH 2012' I also used the shape tool to put the circle on the FREE DOWNLOADS and changed the colour to white.
I then moved the TOP 50 ROCK SONGS EVER!! and changed the colour of the font to white.
Then I went on to add my stand first using the text tool and making the sort of star shape out of lines rotating them and added the text using the text tool.
I then went on to adding the text GLASTONBURY ROCKS !!
I then went on to change the colour of the EXCLUSIVE..... to navy
Then I went on to adding the text ALBUM + GIG reviews and moving free downloads down because it didn't fit right.
I then went on to making the text EXCLUSIVE... bold and changing the font of ALBUM + GIG REVIEWS.
I then took of the zig zag shape off as it didnt look right and made it look unprofessional. And added the text RISING STAR KYA ELLAMS EXCLUSIVE and made it bigger than any other text so it stands out.
I then made the text SCREAM bigger so it stands out, then moved the standfirst to the other side and made it bigger so it was easier to read. Then I moved free downloads to the bottom because it fits better. Then i moved the banner down and added more text to make it specific and more intriguing. Then I changed to the album and gig reviews because it was to vage. Therefore I changed the colour of KYA ELLAMS.. to make it stand out as I also made it bigger so the picture related to the coverline.

I then changed the title SCREAM by adding a line effect which looks like lightening through the word which makes it look more like a rock magazine which i got the inspiration from Kerrang magazine. I then added more coverlines to make it look more crowded as thats what lots of rock magazines had on. Then I made the KYA ELLAMS bigger and added rocks the world to relate to the genre rock i then added a drop shadow to make it stand out more. I then added the EXCLUSIVE and put a black background on which made it look more like a real magazine. I also changed FREE downloads because alot of people already download for free now.

I then changed the font of Kya Ellams because it looked too similar to the title. I then changed the bottom cover line because it was the same as what was in the circle, then I made the barcode and issue date & price smaller because it was far to big. Then I moved all the coverlines down as it was very on top of the postioning statement.

I made the rest of my coverlines in capitals using the text tool. I also edited the font of the banner because it was to similar to my title using the text tool. I also moved the 'to' in the circle down a line using the text tool.

Lastly I used the text tool to edit my bottom banner by changing coldplay to Foo Fighters because they are more a rock band.

Article

Scream readers, on your behalf we had the pleasure in interviewing the drummer in ‘The Rhythm Travellers’. Shaun Parker, 21, has been drumming in the band ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ for boarding on a year. We get the inside gossip on how he does what he does best how he started and the plans for the future.
Trying to get hold of him was the hardest part of the interview but we got there in the end.  He was busy because he was doing a lot of gigs around and about. Having to interview over the phone had its setbacks but what can you do? Shaun started playing the drums after his mum and dad realised everywhere they went he was tapping his feet, using pens and pencils against the kitchen table (didn’t go down too well with his mother). So after that they decided to buy him a drum kit one Christmas which started something amazing.
He had the drum kit in his room and would play them as soon as he woke up before school and as soon as he came home. But as you can imagine the neighbours would go mad! “Will you please turn that racket down?!!!” They would angrily be banging on the door trying telling him to stop. So after a long hard think they converted the shed in to a place where the drum kit lived so as you can imagine he lived out there (not literally!!) Until yet again the neighbours complained about the noise so he had to stop playing the drums by 9:00pm.  Shaun never had a teacher he just took it on his own accord on how to learn which makes his music a little more amazing as he taught himself.
“I’m not a one trick pony” he goes on to say as he can also play the guitar which as well he taught himself as well. So why the drums? “The drums let me get my mood out and I get to show my creative side and I let out any emotions I’m feeling” So if any of you readers are short tempered maybe investing in a set of drums is what you should next invest in!!
So as well as playing the drums guitar and being in a band. What else does Shaun do? He works Monday to Friday in the NHS, he enjoys going out with friends, going to festivals such as Leeds festival, going to gigs, performing in his band in pubs and family events.
As well as being in ‘The Rhythm Travellers’  he recently left the band ‘Last Asylum’ due to different opinions and on-going disagreements such as not practicing as much as they needed as band members were out a lot but as previously stated playing the drums is “his passion” . This now means he can concentrate solely on ‘The Rhythm Travellers’. They practise every week in a rented out music room in Liverpool which he says “they practise for upcoming gigs and have started to make their own music, which will later be coming out in the New Year.” At the moment “The Rhythm Travellers” are doing covers of other rock songs and just doing what they like to do. Scream asked where did the name the ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ come from? And he answered “Well we travel back and forth from the new and old rock music and it was a suggestion the leads singer mum made, so we thought why not” Shaun’s favourite rock bands are Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis and Aerosmith. “I love listening to these bands they help us make our music and help me chill out!!!” Whilst we were interviewing Shaun all we could hear was the tap of his foot in the background which shows he is constantly thinking about music. ‘The Rhythm Travellers’ are the ones to watch and there music will be appearing all over so watch out!!!!
